What is Aptos
An institutional Layer 1 blockchain built with parallel execution
Aptos was created by former Meta engineers who originally built the Diem blockchain. It uses Move, a programming language purpose-built for safe and efficient smart contract execution, and Block-STM, a parallel execution engine that processes transactions across multiple threads simultaneously. The result is sub-second finality, near-zero fees, and a network that has maintained zero downtime since 2023.

What's being built on Aptos?
A growing ecosystem of apps using Aptos's raw speed to power real-world financial infrastructure.
DeFi & Trading
Sub-second settlement and near-zero gas costs make Aptos viable for high-frequency trading, lending, and perpetual exchanges.
Stablecoins & Payments
Aptos is purpose-built for cross-border payments and stablecoin settlement through extensive stablecoin support and cheap fees.
Tokenized RWAs
BlackRock's BUIDL fund and Franklin Templeton's FOBXX have both been deployed on Aptos, making it a leader for institutional-grade finance.

Key terms to know
Block-STM
Aptos's parallel execution engine, which processes transactions across multiple threads simultaneously and achieves up to 160,000 TPS.
Move
A smart contract programming language developed at Meta for the Diem blockchain that treats digital assets as first-class resources which cannot be copied or accidentally destroyed.
Zaptos
A latency optimization that pipelines transaction execution and consensus in parallel rather than sequentially, cutting latency by over 40% in tests.
AptosBFT
The Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus protocol Aptos uses to finalize blocks, designed to maintain safety even when up to one-third of validators act maliciously.
Parallel Execution
A transaction processing approach where multiple transactions are executed across separate threads at the same time.
Account Abstraction
A feature that lets developers define custom authorization rules so apps can support social login, session keys, and spending limits.

FAQs
What makes Aptos different from EVM-based blockchains?
Aptos uses the Move programming language instead of Solidity, which treats digital assets as resources that cannot be duplicated or accidentally destroyed. Its Block-STM engine also executes transactions in parallel rather than sequentially, which gives it a meaningful throughput advantage over most EVM chains.
What is Block-STM and why does it matter?
Block-STM is Aptos's parallel execution engine. It runs transactions across multiple threads at the same time, detects conflicts automatically, and re-executes only what needs to be corrected. Developers do not need to declare dependencies up front.
Who built Aptos?
Aptos was founded in 2021 by Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, both former Meta engineers who led the Diem blockchain project. In December 2024, Shaikh stepped down as CEO and Ching took over the role. The company has raised over $400 million in venture capital from investors including a16z, Franklin Templeton, BlackRock, and others.
Why are institutions deploying on Aptos?
Aptos's combination of speed, low cost, and zero downtime makes it a strong fit for regulated financial products. Franklin Templeton chose Aptos for its on-chain U.S. Government Money Fund, and BlackRock deployed its BUIDL tokenized money market fund on Aptos as the only non-EVM chain.
What types of wallets does Dynamic support on Aptos?
Dynamic supports a growing list of Aptos wallets including Petra, Pontem, Nightly, Backpack, OKX Wallet, and Bitget Wallet.
